The Parish Council
Hazlemere Parish Council is an elected body of 12 unpaid councillors, who
have statutory responsibilities for certain aspects of the village.

here to read about The History of Parish
Councils.
Historically one of the few mandatory, key responsibilities of The Parish Council is the provision,
allocation and management of allotments. Other non-mandatory, but very important responsibilities include open spaces, street lights, public parks, hedge & grass cutting, emptying the dog waste collection bins, and maintaining the public notice boards. Other key areas the council is involved in are planning
applications and acting as a community voice to Wycombe District Council and
Buckinghamshire County Councils. Hazlemere Parish Councillors also sit on
the committees of Hazlemere Youth Centre, Hazlemere Community Centre,
Hazlemere Sports Association and act as School Governors at schools
within the parish. Click

council does for you.
Full Council meetings
take place at 8:00pm on the first Tuesday of each month in The Cedar Barn,
Cedar Avenue, Hazlemere and are open to the public. To view minutes for
previous meetings click on the "Minutes & Accounts" tab on the left. Typically
the full council meetings last around 2 hours and will usually include a report
from the Police - click on one of the following links to read the Police Newsletters for Hazlemere for the months of:
April 2012, December 2011, November 2011, October 2011 September 2011 August 2011 July 2011 and
June 2011.
Public
Time: The first 30 minutes of the meeting are available for the general
public to raise any issues they would like to bring before the council. Each member of the public may ask a question directed to the chairman or make a presentation - but each may last only 3 minutes.
Planning
Committee: meetings
are held at Cedar Barn twice a month, on the first and third Tuesday of the
month. This committee reviews the plans for changes to property in
Hazlemere, which have been submitted to Wycombe District Council by
the public . Although our role is in an advisory capacity, great care
is taken when reviewing all the plans to ensure that
developments respect neighbours privacy, are in keeping with the local street scene and
to ensure over development of sites is not permitted. As with all other
Parish Council meetings the public are welcome; although participation in
the meeting is at the discretion of the committee's chairman. Click on the
planning button on the left
to view the planning page and
to explore the new WDC planning portal.
Open Spaces
Committee:
is
responsible for the general maintenance of all the parks and playground
equipment. This includes, lighting, litter and glass clearance, dog waste
collections, grass cutting, hedges trees and flowerbeds, playground
equipment maintenance and the war memorial.
The war memorial was the subject of one of the most poignant requests to the
parish council from a parishioner. At the request of his mother, in December 2010 the parish council
arranged for the name of a young Hazlemere marine who was killed in
Afghanistan to be added to the War Memorial, which stands by Holy trinity Church on Amersham Road, Hazlemere.

Finance Committee: NEW FOR 2012 - We have now re-established a Finance Committee. This committee meets regularly (currently every other month and/or as required) to scrutinise the financial transactions of the council and make recommendations to the Full Council. This committee will also assume the responsibilities formerly covered by the former finance working party and the duties previously undertaken by budget meetings of the Full Council i.e. the setting of the council's precept - the amount of council tax the Parish Council will ask Wycombe District Council to collect on it's behalf. It is this precept (budget) that enables Hazlemere Parish Council to conduct it's affairs on behalf of the people of Hazlemere.. Click here for some details of some of the ways Hazlemere Parish Council spends it's precept. Read further information about the Finance Committee here
Working Parties -
are set up to discuss various issues. Each group is formed from a
composition of councillors who have agreed to meet and discuss the relevant
topics before reporting back to Full Council.
 |
Finance: At the start of each financial year, the working party
meet to agree the estimated expenditure for the coming year and from this
to establish the parish council's precept (the amount of money the council
asks for in the council tax under 'parish'). The figures are endorsed at
the Full Council meeting. The Parish Clerk is subsequently responsible for
producing a monthly summary of the agreed expenditure which receives the
final agreement by councillors at the Full Council Meetings. Annual
accounts are presented at the AGM - click on the "minutes &
accounts" button to view previous years' accounts |

Communications: This is a newly formed
working party to look at the way the Parish Council communicates and
shares information with our parishioners via the quarterly magazine,
website and notice boards. The first task completed by the communications
working party was this website, announced in the Bucks Free Press - read
the story
here. |
 |
Staffing/HR: This working party was set up to
discuss staffing issues and ensure the parish council meets it commitment
to staff employed by them and paid to carry out their duties e.g. the
Parish Clerk and Wardens. |
 |
Pavilion & Facilities: This working party was set up to look at the issues involved with the management of our largest investment - The Ken Williams memorial Pavilion - and all the other facilities within the Hazlemere Parish Council portfolio (Cedar Barn, the Cedar Barn Stable Block, the Amersham Road and Rose Avenue Recreation Grounds, The Dell Play Park and our allotments at two sites: Queensway and The Dell). |
 |
Asset Management: This working party was recently set up as the result of an Extraordinary General Meeting, which was called to discuss the move of High Wycombe Croquet Club to the Hazlemere Recreation Ground. The purpose of this working party is to produce a comprehensive inventory of the council's assets (Physical Assets in the form of property and Virtual Assets such as the Intellectual Property of our websites) and recommend to the full council how we should maximise the return on the public's investment in those assets. |
